Faculty Oppose “Ethnic Studies” Requirement for UC System Admissions

While the UC system is “test blind,” refusing to consider ACT/SAT scores, a proposal is being put forth to require UC college applicants to have taken an ethnic studies course in high school. The faculty opposing the proposal argue that “while there are many distinct ways to teach high-school students about race, ethnicity, and diversity, the current proposal adopts a particular, highly political and ideological…The university should never be in the position of forcing a particular political agenda upon its own students – let alone all upon UC applicants across the state and the nation. “
