Texas A&M’s Unreported Foreign Funding
Wall Street Journal | Neetu Arnold
Neetu Arnold explains that Texas A&M hasn’t reported $100 million in foreign funding originating from Qatar and Russia by claiming that the receiving entity, the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), is separate from Texas A&M. “The evidence indicates that TEES and Texas A&M are essentially the same entity” for reporting purposes. Why should it matter? “Qatar became the largest foreign donor to American universities in recent years…[yet is] a country that supports censorship and subjects migrant laborers to poor working conditions.” In addition, “Foreign funding disclosure is necessary to protect U.S. national security and to promote transparency… Americans should know if foreign countries—and which ones—are vying for influence at top U.S. research institutions.”
